recycling t-shaped literacy

Four the last 3-4 weeks we have done a T-shape literacy. The T-shape literacy we did was about recycling. We had to read four stories and answer questions, then we had to do creates. For the creates we had to make a logo, make a slideshow of one of the steps from the books and what we know about Refuse, Reduce, Recycle and Reuse. Recycle means: Recycling is the process of reusing waste materials into new materials and objects. Reduce means: Reduce means that if you use a lot of plastic bags or plastic bottles you have to reduce the amount you use of that thing you are using a lot. Reuse means: Reuse means use an empty product that you can use again to store something in. Refuse means: Any disposable materials which includes both recyclable and non recyclable materials. I learnt that you can make clothes out of pet bottles.

Maker Space

Last week we did Maker space, one of the rotations we had to do was a lemon battery,  we had to make a light work using a lemon, nails, crocodile clips, L.E.D and a 10c coin in each lemon. After 15mins we made the L.E.D work after a few adjustments. We weren’t the only group who made it work, lots of others did it too.

Maker Space-T-shape literacy

Last term On Matariki we planted seedlings, last week the class checked the plants they were fully grown. On Friday we did Makerspace, for our makerspace had to make a healthy meal. We had to be in groups of five, in my group there was Alex, Ondreous, Archie, Pharell and me. We had to use at least 1 vegetable from the garden, there were four vegetables they were carrots, parsley, silverbeet and celery, we used 3 of them, carrots, parsley and celery because we made a burrito, stuffed capsicum, carrot and celery. Then we did T-shape literacy. We  had to explain how a plant grows, I did how popcorn grows. For example popcorn
Lay the popping corn on a wet paper towel in a plastic bag with end open and leave it for the week
Then put it in a pot of soil (everyday you need to sprinkle a little bit of water on the pots)
After ten days, you should see a little plant in the pot. Then plant it in a sunny spot. (constantly water them)
Soon you should see feathery tassels emerge from each plant and long pink threads (silks) sprouting from each stalk.
When the silks turn brown, the leaves and the stalks dry up and the husks turned pale and papery you can start picking the corn.
When you have finished let them dry for 4 weeks  then shell them and twist the cobs to take off the corn then let then popcorn seeds dry for 10 days
Then put the popcorn seeds in a paper bag and put it in the microwave for 1 or 2 minute and it should start popping, there you have it a healthy snack.
