The Fishing penguin

In Te Ngahere some students got chosen to write 2 100 word stories and I was one of them. We went on pobble and then we picked a picture to write about

The Fishing Penguin

The moment had arrived. His beady, black eyes narrowed against the blanket of snow that surrounded him, his slick fur looked as dark as the sky at night. The little penguin layed completely still, This might be his only chance to strike.

As the school of fish swam by, the little penguin striked! The fish spread in different directions, but the penguin went after the biggest one. He cornered the fish, but then he saw a MASSIVE fish and the fish saw that he was cornering the other fish and then the big fish ate the little penguin up!

Mood-Tastic Moods

Hi, my name is Thea and for the last four weeks we have been doing Panui (Reading) about mood, atmosphere, language features and figurative language. We were learning to identify language features and figurative language. The most recent one I have completed is the Text Analysis, we had to write the language features down in a story we chose in full sentences and write down the mood or atmosphere it made and then we did the same thing but for figurative language, we had to do it three times. The story's I chose were The Ship, The Mouse, and Bilbo Baggins. It was hard at first because I wasn't writing the mood that it created so it when orange (orange means it's wrong) then I got it. Have you learnt about mood and atmosphere?

Things To Know About Te Huarere (Weather)

HI my name is Thea, for 1 week last term and 4 weeks this term we have been learning to create our own weather report in te reo Māor to learn to speak fluent maori, we had to make scripts and a screencastify, Pharell was my buddy. First we made a script and practised reading them, after we were good at saying it we had to say it in front of a teacher, once they said we could say it right we got to screencastify. Before we did a screencastify we made a slide and put our little characters pointing to the places we talked about, then we made a screencastify. At first we kept mucking up for about four times then we got it, it was a relief! Have you ever spoken in a different language before? Thank you for reading my blog post! Here is our screencastify!

Marvelous Mahi Toi

HI my name is Thea, for the last 3 weeks last term and this term we have been doing calendar art (Mahi Toi). The first thing we had to do was practice on four little korus, the korus had a light grey stencil for us to trace over, we had to practice drawing continuous lines and rule straight lines, after we did that we had to practice blending with coloured pencils, once we did that we went on the big paper. The colours I chose were red, orange, two types of blue and black. For the waves on the koru I did the black and the blues, for the lines I did the red and orange. It was hard to draw the continuous lines because I kept going over the lines and kept using my wrist(we had to use our shoulder not our wrist). Have you ever blended with coloured pencils? Thank you for reading my blog post! Here is my finish product!

Magnificent Maori

Hi, my name is Thea and for the last two weeks we have been making scripts because the class has to record themselves with a buddy and say a weather report in maori. My buddy's name is Pharell. We decided to do our weather report on a slide and then screencastify us reading it. So far Pharell and I have only written the script and half of the animation. At first Pharell and I didn’t know what to do or what to write but then we went to the success criteria and we got our script GREEN! Have you spoken in a different language before?I’ll be posting my screencastify soon. Hope you come back to see it! Thank you for reading my post!

Magic Moods

Hi my name is Thea and last week the class was learning about different moods, ( a mood is a feeling that the author gives a reader with the different words they use).  One of the things we had to do looked like this, It was..........…… (time of day ) when I walked …….ly (adverb) to the ....……………. (place).  It was a ..............(weather) day. The sunglasses I was wearing made everything look .......….. (colour).  There was a strong smell of ....……......(smell).  In the distance I heard  .....…....(sound). The teacher told us to get a paper and a pen, she called out a time of day, weather ect. At first I wondered what we were doing so I just picked random things but then Whaea Shanna told us what we were doing so I had to change basically everything but it worked out! The mood I did was anxious. Maybe you could fill out the paragraph too!? Thank you for reading my blog post! Here is my writing, I hope you like it!

It was noon when I walked anxiously to the streets of London . It was a rainy day. The sunglasses I was wearing made everything look blue. There was a strong smell of a cafe nearby. In the distance I heard the sound of people cheering.

The Biggest Fish

Two weeks ago on Monday my Dad and I woke up at 6:45am to go fishing, we picked up my best friend Maya on the way. When we got to the boat ramp Maya and I helped my Dad get the dinghy in the water, we put our life jackets on and put all the fishing gear in the boat and we were off. The first place we went was a buoy out by the islands. We waited for a while and then I got a bite, I yanked my rod and I was on, I reeled my fishing rod line up as fast as I could... but it was a 27 cm snapper (they have to be 30 cm or over to keep them) so my dad put it back. A few minutes later Maya got a big bite and and she reeled up her rod and her bait was gone. Two hours passed and Maya caught a butter fish and a 33 cm snapper, my dad caught a really big 44 cm snapper and a 32 cm snapper and I caught five decent sized snapper that were big enough to keep. The annoying that was Maya caught a 29 cm fish it was so close to being 30 cm but we had to put it back. I put my bait in for at least 30 sec and my bait was GONE!! But then I caught the fish. When we got home my Dad cleaned and cut the fish and and we had a yummy dinner! Have you ever caught a snapper? Thank you for reading my blog post!

Marvellous Art

Te Ngahere has been practising and learning to draw continuous lines, draw curves, rule straight lines, select colours for effect and blend colours. We had to use a pencil to draw over a lightly shaded template to practice drawing continuous lines and use a ruler to draw straight lines. At first it was hard because I have never drawn continuous lines and I kept going over the lines but then I got it. After we finished the sketching we had to learn to blend with coloured pencils. We had to draw a shape and then blend the pencils, I used three different types of blues. The hard bit  was blending with pencils because the lines you draw sometimes leave gaps in your drawing. Are you good at art? Have you blended with pencils? Thank you for reading my blog post!

The Crazy Castle Creation

For the last 3 weeks Te Ngahere have been doing measurement for maths. For example you have to figure out how long it took to bounce a basketball 10,000 times or make a castle with measurement or figure out the percentages of a pounamu pendant. My favourite activity that my group has done so far is the castle making. We had to make a castle with exact measurements, we had to make seven 17 cm across  and 8 cm down with 1 cm tabs on each side for the walls, two 21 cm across and 11 cm down and a 1 cm tab on one side for the square towers ( you have to fold them three times to make them), make four 21 cm across and 10 cm down and add one tab on it and make a circular tower, make four 8.2 cm on each side to make cone and use a compass, add a tab on one half on the half circle and last but not least make the rectangular great Room It is 12 centimetres long, 6 centimetres wide, and 9 centimetres high Add tabs where needed, make and fit a roof, put it all together and you have a castle. The hard bit was when I was making the walls I kept getting the measurement wrong but after several times I got it. Have you ever made a cardboard castle? Thank you for reading my post!

Enjoyable Rippa Rugby

On Monday we played some rippa rugby, the teacher put us into groups, I was in the green team. To play rippa rugby you have a velcro belt with two tags on it. To start one team has a rugby ball and the other team doesn’t. You have to put the ball on the floor and touch it with your foot and pass back (you can only pass backwards). When the your team gets a try (we you touch the ball down on the other teams side at the end you get a try) you go back to your position and just touch it on your foot and run. We played the yellow team, and we lost. Have you ever played rippa rugby? Have you ever done PE drills? Thank you for reading my post!

Wild Wonder Project

Wild Wonder Project

For the last few weeks we have been building rockets for the Wonder Project. I wasn’t there when my group launched it. I don't know how far it went but it flew. Then we had to modify the plane from 3 fins to 6 fins. Before we launched it we had to do the stability test, for the test we had to put water in the bottle to make sure it didn’t leak, next was to tie a piece of string in the middle to make sure it was equally balanced, for the last test we swung the bottle around with the string on to make sure it was balanced when going through the air. It was pretty hard to make the rocket because the fins kept coming off, but we got it! The second time we launched of rocket it went 62.1m! Have you ever launched a rocket? Thank you for reading my blog post!

WONDERFUL WONDER PROJECT

WONDERFUL WONDER PROJECT

Last Wednesday Troy came to our school from the Wonder Project. We had to do tasks on our chromebooks, but first Troy launched a rocket on the feld, I don't know how high it went. First he pumped up the launch pad to 30 psi and it didn’t go far. But the next time he pumped it up to 60 psi and the rocket went really far. We went inside after that. One of the activities was to design a rocket, we needed to design it and write what we need. Have you ever done the wonder project? Thank you for reading my blog post! Here is my rocket!
